Lighter Pine, or Fatwood, is absolutely fire making gold in the eastern woodlands. This resinous core of long deceased pine trees is essentially pure turpentine, and is highly flammable even when soaking wet. Finding a nice chunk of lighter pine means you have excellent combustible tinder to build a fire in all weather.
