Traveling by canoe is one of the best; if not the best ways to travel.
In a way, a canoe embodies the essence of wilderness exploration, paddling the arterial waterways of regions unknown, floating on a thin strip of bark or wood,(plastic nowadays) completely balanced, effortlessly slicing through the sure peril that is always directly below you, just an unfortunate bad move away .. It is an exercise in balance and so is our gear choices: blending the style and soulfulness of the old style, with the the durability and practicality of modern gear. A canoes allows you to carry a more complete kit, and the kit is the essence of the trip afield, regardless of your means of travel. Part of going into the wilderness is to recreate, to “Re-Create.” The things you choose to bring with you are basic things, yet these basic things are what you rely on to meet your basic needs- you have absolute control of what you bring, and on this trip our gear reflects a classic style in a modern world.
Food is a big deal, sitting by a campfire, cooking a meal, enjoying the great outdoors is a timeless activity, for this trip we tried to bring timeless groceries, to recreate grub that would be recognizable to a fellow out tramping in the early 20th century.
I highly recommend canoe or kayak camping. these pictures are from a paddling trip Jenny and I did on the Tallapoosa River Alabama
